Hi All,
I also don't enjoy cellar space but it offers some advantages. Cellars are cheaper even in city center with over-priced commercial spaces but suburb space can solve this issue. Cellar space offers good soundproofing so we don't need to afraid of problems with making noise at night. This is crucial for members doing mechanical work in the evenings. Design and build bunker-like air filtration system would be great hacker challenge  :-)

One-time expenses related to moving can be lowered if new equipment would be installed continuously after move not at once before.

Location is important mainly for recruiting new members. New location must be easily accessible by public transport (best on the tram route) but in my opinion location in city center is not necessary. For hackerspace propagation articles on Linux servers are good idea and I plan to use next year Researchers Night to increase base publicity.

Personally I accept monthly fee up to 800 CZK for better working conditions. After my high initial drive to arrange new space I start to doubt if all of us really appreciate it. Despite of constant complainants now I feel that many members are happy here.

Availability of high speed optical internet connection required for VPS Free operation should be discussed directly with UPC because owner and building administration could provide inaccurate information.

Next call to the owner takes place after 20. July so I try to postpone to give more time to make final decision.

You need to find sponsors, there is lot of money everywhere for smart people and smart projects :-)

Mostly agree that we can't afford the move - we'd probably be able to
pay the rent if we raised the membership fees significantly but wouldn't
have money left for one-time expenses related to the move. Would be nice
to save bunch of cash for that first.

I like the idea of space shared with vpsfree - together we may have
stronger negotiating power. We'd just have to be careful to arrange the
cooperation so that it's transparent and beneficial for both
organizations.

I know that it's the holiday season but I'd like to propose to council
and anyone else interested to meet and discuss in person what we should
do next regarding the space at Vranovská. If you're interested please

Can't say I don't agree, but the basement is more underground, literally.

I wouldn't mind.

Although, while on the topic, I don't think the financial side of things
adds up. We simply don't have enough members to justify the move yet.
IMHO raising the fee will work only against us in terms of slowing the
growth, which we will so desperately need, if we agree to raise our
expenses at this point.

We could merge the plan to move with my long term goal to have an office
in Brno for vpsFree.cz. That could double or triple what we could be
able to afford - though for the purposes of two separate entities that
still might not be enough. So I'd say let's get some fresh members first
and then figure something out.

The Vranovská space made me think more about a new space for base48.

Personally I don't enjoy spending more time in a cellar space. It's
because of missing daylight and higher humidity, I think. From my
viewpoint cellar is good only for casual meetings, taking medicaments
and listening to loud noises. It's not so good for more hours of
everyday serious work. However, I know that some members stand up for a
cellar space and I respect it.

For me, for example brmlab space fits me best because it is a ground
space or actually half-ground space that makes it more affordable, and
it is close to the city center at the same time.

And in my opinion, non-cellar space would be also more attractive for
new members.

I'd like to know your opinion on:

1. How much do you insist on a cellar space?

2. Suburb non-cellar space is cheaper. How important is the location for
you? Can you imagine Řečkovice/Komárov/whatever further district?

3. Are you willing to pay higher member fees for brighter, more aerial
space? Can you say how much exactly?
